Old is New

In Oakland, California a company called SoleSpace Lab is teaching kids how to teaching kids cobbling (I know that sounds boring) and customization classes (now we're talkin') on how to make their old kicks look new again—while also personalizing them. I love this story because as a culture we tend to discard the old in favor of the new. This example shows us we can breathe new life into the things we would have otherwise thrown away. Here's why this works so well. 1. Repairing something is (in my opinion) one of the most staisfying things we can do. It's also a skill that's handy to have. 2. When we refurbish something we can usually do it for less than it would cost to replace it. Or, if we plan ti sell it, we'll get more. 3. Throwing less things away is good for the planet. Just something to think about as you look around at things that could be brought back to life with some TLC. The best pasrt about the shoes being repaired is at teh same time they are also being personalized and being able to express ourselves, show off our our uniqueness, being creative, and highlighting what we believe in or stand are an important to most people.
