On the popular series, Blue Bloods, the Reagan family have dinner together every Sunday, no exceptions. I know, it’s a television show, it’s not real. Yet, for some people putting family first is their main mission.
I’m writing my new novel about a couple who lose their only son. Grasping what their true pain would be like isn’t hard when I imagine if one of my own sons was no longer here. The feeling is sickening and hard to handle.
The result is I want to make sure I don’t miss a moment with my boys while they are still at home. It’s easy to get lost in our work, do things without them, or not insist we spend time together in order to give them space.
